- The Lake Charles Area has a proud history
of ecumenical and interfaith
collaboration. Abraham's Tent and The
Samaritan Counseling Center are two testaments to communities of
faith working together for the good of our people. In collaboration,
what no one Church could accomplish, many did.
- For a variety of reasons, perhaps many
unknown, the local ministerial
association unraveled over a five
year period until it reached a point of total non-functioning. There
were a few "neighborhood efforts and successes", but no community wide
organization or activities.
- Hurricanes Katrina and Rita brought
destruction to our area. At the same
time, these storms brought
forth the reality that we need to work together and can work
together. About six months following Hurricane Rita, a group of four
ministers began to meet in prayer to discuss the reformation of an
area-wide ministerial group. The numbers were expanded to seven and
then anyone interested was invited to participate and to make a
commitment. In November, 2006, the LAKE AREA MINISTERS GROUP formally
came into existence with the election of officers, a Mission Statement,
and a Statement of Understanding.
- An invitation to join the Lake Area
Ministers Group is sincere and always
open. |
